Negli spazi del Complesso Ostiense di Roma e in diretta streaming, il 9 giugno, Eni, in collaborazione con l’Agenzia Internazionale per le Energie Rinnovabili (IRENA),hapresentato il rapporto IRENAWorld Energy Transitions Outlook (WETO 2022). All’incontro hanno partecipato Roberto Cingolani, Ministro della Transizione Ecologica (MITE), Francesco La Camera, Direttore Generale IRENA, Claudio Descalzi, Amministratore Delegato di Eni, ed Elizabeth Press, Director Planning and Programme Support IRENA. Ha moderato l’evento Giorgia Cardinaletti (Giornalista Rai).
Il rapporto WETO 2022, dedicato alla transizione energetica, delinea le azioni prioritarie al 2030 per cercare di limitare l'aumento delle temperature globali entro il 2050 a 1,5°C rispetto ai livelli preindustriali, fornendo un'analisi approfondita di due aree particolarmente rilevanti per la decarbonizzazione dei settori di uso finale: elettrificazione e bioenergia. Inoltre, il report indaga anche l’impatto socioeconomico del percorso verso 1,5°C e suggerisce a governi e istituzioni, firmatari dell’Accordo di Parigi del 2015, metodi e strumenti per accelerare il progresso verso l'accesso universale all'energia pulita.
Il WETO 2022, confermando che il processo di transizione energetica è sempre più urgente e necessario in un quadro di crisi globale, disegna un percorso verso l’obiettivo zero emissioni nette al 2050, sottolineando che:
Gli interventi a breve termine per affrontare le emergenze devono essere accompagnati da un'attenzione costante a una transizione energetica di successo nel medio e lungo termine
Qualsiasi iniziativa che non sia un'azione radicale e immediata diminuirà – o cancellerà – le possibilità di rimanere sull'obiettivo di 1,5°C o addirittura 2°C
L’accelerazione della transizione energetica è necessaria anche per garantire sicurezza energetica nel lungo periodo, stabilità dei prezzi e resilienza delle nazioni
Rivedere i piani, le politiche, i regimi fiscali e la struttura del settore energetico che impediscono il progresso, è una scelta politica.
Il percorso verso 1,5°C richiede un grande cambiamento nella produzione e nel consumo di energia da parte della società, che dovrebbe portare a una riduzione di 37 GT di emissioni di CO2 all'anno entro il 2050. Questo obiettivo si può raggiungere attraverso:
la crescita significativa della generazione e degli usi diretti di energia elettrica basata su rinnovabili
un sostanziale miglioramento dell’efficienza energetica
l'elettrificazione di tutti gli usi finali (per esempio, veicoli elettrici e pompe di calore)
l'idrogeno verde e suoi derivati
la bioenergia sostenibile associata a iniziative di cattura e stoccaggio di CO2
l'utilizzo di iniziative di cattura e stoccaggio di CO2 nel cosiddetto “ultimo miglio”.
Nel 2021 Eni e IRENA hanno avviato una partnership, che punta a facilitare il dialogo e la condivisione delle rispettive esperienze per accelerare la transizione energetica e lo sviluppo delle energie rinnovabili nei Paesi esportatori di combustibili fossili. L'accordo ha anche lo scopo di identificare gli ostacoli agli investimenti del settore privato nelle energie rinnovabili nei Paesi in cui Eni opera e favorire soluzioni in coordinamento con i governi con un focus particolare su biocarburanti, energia marina e rinnovabili offshore.
