Eni sostiene e condivide in maniera chiara e trasparente il proprio posizionamento sui principi ritenuti essenziali nella difesa del clima.

Eni sta lavorando per una maggiore trasparenza intorno all'attività di lobbying sul clima e si impegna a dialogare con governi, legislatori e altre aziende e società per contribuire a dare forma a politiche e normative globali. Eni dialoga con governi e legislatori sia direttamente sia attraverso gruppi come le associazioni di industriali o le coalizioni multisettoriali.
Eni sostiene la proposta di uno standard europeo di reporting climatico e ritiene che, in linea generale, i requisiti proposti dall'EFRAG siano utili per garantire un'informativa completa sulla strategia di decarbonizzazione delle aziende. Eni auspica che i più importanti standard setter internazionali emettano presto chiare guidance su quelle metriche richieste dalla bozza di standard le cui metodologie di calcolo sono ancora dibattute.
Eni supporta la bozza di standard di disclosure climatica dell'ISSB in quanto basa le proprie richieste sulle 4 aree chiave per utenti e preparers già delineate dalla TCFD (Governance, Risk Management, Strategy e Targets & Metrics), e integra tali requisiti minimi intersettoriali con una disclosure settoriale per cogliere le specificità dei singoli settori. Auspichiamo che i requisiti settoriali possano essere ulteriormente elaborati, anche attraverso un confronto con standard solidi, riconosciuti e ampiamente adottati (ad esempio, per il settore O&G, lo standard IPIECA/API/IOGP).
Nella lettera di risposta alla SEC, Eni ha supportato la decisione della Commissione di sviluppare uno standard obbligatorio per la disclosure climatica delle imprese, inclusivo del obbligo di reporting delle emissioni GHG Scope 1, 2 e 3. Nello sviluppo di questo standard, Eni ha suggerito alla Commissione di basarsi su linee guida già esistenti in materia, come le Raccomandazioni della TCFD, e di adoperarsi per la convergenza tra questo standard e quelli in corso di sviluppo da parte di altri importanti regolatori internazionali (ad esempio, EFRAG, ISSB).
Eni accoglie con favore e sostiene l'iniziativa della Commissione europea in merito alla certificazione delle soluzioni di carbon removal. Eni ritiene che armonizzare a livello europeo le regole sulla certificazione di ogni tipo di attività di carbon removal aumenterà la fiducia degli attori privati nello sviluppo di tali soluzioni, avendo chiari i benefici ambientali e sociali derivanti dalla loro implementazione. Questo faciliterà anche il processo decisionale e incentiverà gli investimenti in questo mercato.
Eni sostiene la proposta di una legge a livello europeo per abbattere le emissioni di metano, con l'obiettivo di raggiungere la neutralità climatica entro il 2050. A questo proposito, Eni condivide l'obiettivo della Commissione europea di migliorare l'accuratezza delle informazioni sulle fonti e ridurre le emissioni di metano. Eni suggerisce inoltre di migliorare la proposta di regolamento, tenendo conto che i requisiti dovrebbero bilanciare il tasso di emissione e la relativa probabilità di accadimento con i costi che gli operatori devono sostenere per ottemperare agli obblighi.
Attraverso la partecipazione all'iniziativa Methane Guiding Principles, Eni si è impegnata a sostenere politiche e normative costruttive in materia di metano che incentivino azioni tempestive, spingano a migliorare le prestazioni, facilitino un'adeguata applicazione e sostengano la flessibilità e l'innovazione. In un sottoinsieme dell'iniziativa Methane Guiding Principles sono state elaborate raccomandazioni dettagliate per sostenere un’opportuna legislazione dell'Unione Europea (UE) che consegua risultati ambiziosi di riduzione delle emissioni di metano nell’intera filiera del gas naturale consumato nell'UE.
