Capacity Building

Long before the enactment of the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act in 2010, which aims at deepening indigenous participation in the Nigerian oil and gas industry, Eni had already demonstrated its commitment to local content development: Eni pioneered the participation of the Nigeria Government in the industry with an offer, in 1962, to the Federal Government to acquire interests in the company’s Nigerian operations. This option was exercised by the Federal Government in 1973 setting the stage for the current Joint Venture (JV) arrangement through which the Nigerian Government participates directly in the industry, on behalf of the people.

Building on this heritage, the Company has continued in its strong support for local content development through a multi-pronged approach which includes Domiciliation of Work, Business Development Support for Local industry, Skills Acquisition & Training, Research & Development, and Other Measures Including Partnerships and strategic investments in support of the development of Nigeria’s domestic industrial capacity.

Awards

In recognition of her leading role in local content development, the Company clinched the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) Operator Awards in Years 2014 and 2016 for its outstanding commitment to the development of local content initiatives in the oil and gas industry.
