In Norway, we are active in the exploration, development and production of hydrocarbons through our subsidiary Vår Energi and in the refining and chemicals sectors. We also pursue our strategy for the integration of the energy mix, consisting of the development of hydrocarbon fields and the strengthening of our presence in the wind energy sector. In terms of our goals in the country, as well as consolidating our activities to guarantee the safety of supplies, we develop important initiatives with the development of hydrocarbon and renewable energy through Plenitude.
Activity start date: 1965 – present
With Vår Energi, one of Norway’s leading independent companies in the oil and gas exploration and production sector, we operate in high-potential areas in the Norwegian Sea, in the Norwegian North Sea and in the Barents Sea. In 2025, an additional participation stake was acquired in the Ekofisk producing project in the PL018F development license. We continue our development activities thanks to the Goliat, Balder X, Askeladd West and Johan Castberg projects. Goliat, for example, involves the extraction, production and storage of oil in the Barents Sea via a circular floating structure (FPSO), designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and address the criticalities of the Arctic environment.
During 2025, production start-up was achieved at the Johan Castberg oil fields which includes the Skrugard, Havis and Drivis discoveries made between 2011 and 2014, the Balder-X oil field in Norwegian offshore, the Askeladd West gas field. Exploration activity yielded positive results with five commercial discoveries, in particular with the Vidsyn exploration well in the PL586 license in the Norwegian Sea, the Drivis Tubåen exploration well in the PL532 license in the Barents Sea nearby to the Johan Castberg field, the Goliat Ridge discoveries, adjacent to the Goliat producing field in the Barents Sea. Evaluation activities are underway for fast-track development, the F Sør exploration well in the PL090 license in the North Sea and of the Smørbukk Midt exploration well in the PL094 license in the Norwegian Sea, the latter already in production leveraging on the existing facilities in the area.
Through Vårgrønn, a joint venture between Plenitude and HitecVision, we are also present in the Norwegian offshore wind power sector, where we plan to acquire licenses through participation in various tenders. An agreement also sees the company involved in the important British Dogger Bank offshore wind energy project.
The energy company, owned by Eni and HitecVision, operates in the Norwegian exploration sector.
