We operate in the Republic of the Congo in the exploration, development and production sectors – both onshore and offshore – in electricity generation and in the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG), biofuel production (agri-business) to feed the biorefinery supply chain, in the chemical sector, and in agri-business. We focus our in-country support activities on access to equitable and sustainable energy, with the construction of the Djéno Power Station (CED) and the Congo Power Station (CEC). Having begun initial LNG production in February 2024 and started deliveries to global markets, we are aiming to enhance energy security within our decarbonisation strategy. An agreement was been signed with JV partners for the supply of gas to the local market prior to export.
In support of the gas production agreements, new agreements were signed to promote local and community initiatives with the aim of promoting access to education and vocational training in the country (Pointe Noire and Ollombo), and activities in local the local fishing industry. At the same time, the start of the third phase of the Hinda Integrated Project (PIH 3) was also authorised. Initiated in 2011, the project was set up to promote development in the Kouilou area and involves the inhabitants of the rural centres near the M'Boundi deposit, in the district of Hinda, a town in the west of the country. Through this project, we support socio-economic development, access to education, economic diversification, access to water and sanitation, health and micro-entrepreneurship. We focus our community support activities on fair, sustainable energy access with the construction of the Djéno Power Station (CED) and the Congo Power Station (CEC).
The Republic of Congo
2012 – present
The Hinda project involves communities living near the M’Boundi field in the Republic of the Congo and targets four priority areas: education, health, access to water and agriculture. It engages residents in health-protection, environmental awareness and parenting education campaigns, while routine tasks such as maintaining the water wells that secure supplies are entrusted to local committees. The Conseil Départemental du Kouilou is stepping in as a partner for rural development, helping to support the population and safeguard the project’s long-term sustainability.
The Hinda Integrated Project carries out extensive infrastructure work to build and upgrade existing facilities, for example schools, medical centres and water wells. It also includes the CATREP (Centre d’Appui Technique et des Ressources Professionnelles), a training hub that supports farmers and livestock breeders. Regular courses at the centre strengthen professional skills, for example by teaching agronomic techniques to grow crops for biofuel production.
The Alpha Hinda project focuses on promoting literacy. With teachers and volunteers on board, its training centres give children and adults access to high-quality study programmes. At the same time, joint initiatives were set up to cultivate and sell vegetable crops, the proceeds of which go to the student volunteers who work there.
There are circular economy initiatives ongoing in the region to create value from waste, through the biodegradation of contaminated soil and oil-based cuttings, composting of waste from company canteens to be reused as fertiliser, and plans for the recovery and recycling of plastics.
