ETB’s Front Office trading and sales team generates value from assets including Eni’s equity production of “traditional” crude oil, as well as innovative biofuels. We are responsible for conducting transactions with third parties, while constantly mitigating risk. It is a challenging and fast-moving environment that requires excellent knowledge of the energy markets, as well as flexibility and agility.
When you join our Front Office function, you will find a friendly, supportive and professional team from which to learn, while you gain significant insights into global trade flows.
Typical Front Office roles may include:
Our Middle Office function is at the heart of ETB, managing continuous interaction with all other parts of the company throughout the entire trade lifecycle – from counterparty onboarding to settlement. The Middle Office ensures consistency between the exposure profile generated by the trading desk and our approved risk strategy.
Middle Office colleagues support our Front Office teams by guaranteeing that governance and compliance procedures are followed, and by providing an advisory role based on effective credit and market risk analysis.
Key activities include:
Evaluating the risks of trading operations, credit and counterparties. Essentially, assessing the probability of a risk occurring and the value of its potential impact, for example through scenario analysis or stress tests.
Verifying compliance with company procedures and assigning risk limits by validating hedging strategies, new products or non-standard market operations.
Monitoring and control of trading operations.
Prescription of actions to mitigate impacts, whenever limits or stop losses are exceeded.
If you join us, you will have good knowledge of business and trading fundamentals, but also a mathematical and statistical background.
As a member of our Middle Office team, you will help to shape our systems and processes, bringing your unique perspective to support our continuous improvement. You will also interface with colleagues in our headquarters and from all over the world, providing you with valuable exposure within Eni.
Typical Middle Office roles may include:
ETB’s various Support Functions keep our operations running efficiently and effectively.
Typical Support Functions disciplines may include:
Legal, Regulatory and Compliance
Human Resources (HR).
In our London-based Legal department, our UK-qualified in-house lawyers advise on any legal issues relating to shipping and the trading of commodities and derivatives (both contentious and non-contentious), and support a number of different departments including KYC, credit, sanctions and compliance. The work is interesting and varied, with a lot of opportunities to learn within a small but collaborative team where new ideas are encouraged. If you join the Legal team, you’ll bring relevant legal qualifications, knowledge and experience from a commodities, shipping or commercial background to help the business identify and mitigate risks.
Our Human Resources team ensures all of our people are taken care of, from on-boarding, employment contracts and payroll, to benefits, health and well-being.
Our Technology function supports ETB’s teams to achieve their objectives smoothly and efficiently. Typically, you will be aligned to either the Front Office, Middle Office or Support Functions, partnering with business users to deliver, maintain and enhance a combination of third-party and in-house systems and applications across all our locations and traded asset types (both physical and derivative trades). This includes our centralized Energy Trading & Risk Management (ETRM) system, in which the majority of ETB’s transactions and processes take place.
We often look to "blur the lines" between traditional IT roles, giving many of our team members the opportunity to undertake hybrid responsibilities, such as a Business Analyst who is also able to develop technical solutions. We value knowledge-sharing, with a strong focus on internal, hands-on learning to constantly build on each other’s skills and experience. In our team, you will have the freedom to explore new technologies and approaches in a friendly and inclusive environment.
Typical IT and Technology roles may include:
ETB is a team of around 300 people who manage a global trading portfolio from our hubs in London (UK), Rome (Italy), Houston (USA) and Singapore.
When you join Eni Trade & Biofuels, you will become part of Eni – a global energy company with more than 32,000 people in 61 countries – and growing.
When you join ETB, you will enjoy:
A truly multicultural, collaborative, supportive and dynamic culture
The chance to learn fast and move between teams as you build your knowledge and experience
A good work/life balance
Depending on your location: a comprehensive benefits package that may cover health, well-being and flexible working
Potential to relocate to roles within one of our other international locations, on a short or long-term basis
Playing a role in activities that benefit from Eni’s strong trading position and capital base.
Eni Trade & Biofuels (ETB) is the crude oil, refined oil products and biofuels trading and shipping company of Eni. It is an asset-backed, not speculative, trading company dedicated to maximizing equity production value and to supply optimal feedstocks for both Eni’s oil and bio-industrial systems.
In 2023, ETB traded 425 Mbbl of crude oil, 13 Mton of oil refined products and about 1 Mton of biofuels, with a turnover of over €40bn.
We are a key part of Eni’s supply chain, acting as the interface between the physical and financial markets, and capturing the maximum value from Eni’s assets.
Biofuels is a growing segment within the energy sector, as Eni expands its production and refinery capacity around the world. In line with our energy transition strategy, ETB plays a key role in satisfying Eni’s growing need to source sustainable bio-feedstocks such as waste used cooking oil, animal fat and other biomass to produce Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a diesel fuel containing 100% renewable components, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), Bio-naphtha and Bio-LPG.
Our main activities include:
Marketing the products generated by Eni’s traditional and green refineries
Sourcing hydrocarbon and bio-feedstock for Eni’s traditional and green refineries
Providing oil risk management services, including trading of commodity derivatives
Marketing products from Versalis, Eni’s petrochemical company
Sourcing and managing maritime transport and logistics for Eni’s products around the world
Vetting of shipping services to ensure compliance with the industry’s highest standards.
