Education
In Pemba, the capital of the Cabo Delgado province on Mozambique’s north-eastern coast, we run several education projects to improve the school system. Long-term beneficiaries include pupils at the Paquitequete, Kupurata and Kumilamba primary schools and adults attending literacy courses.
Mozambique is one of the most promising countries on the African continent, where we operate in the exploration sector with the goal of diversifying the energy mix, enhancing the value of natural gas. Thanks to the Coral South project, the country now stands at the forefront of global LNG production and export. Alongside its contribution to national economic growth, we support local development to improve access to education and vocational training.

Our initiatives in Pemba aim to ensure that every child and young person in the target communities completes a fair, free and high-quality education. To this end, children are provided with school supplies, improved sanitary facilities and new equipment in their schools.
Through the Aprendemos brincando (Learning by playing) programme we provided an innovative teaching system and classroom facilitators who support teachers. This approach creates a dialogue with students that sparks each learner’s curiosity.
Our access to primary education initiatives contributed to reduce the annual dropout rate by 2% and enabled 96% of students to complete the school year. The refurbishment of the Kupurata and Kumilamba school, handed over to Pemba municipality by Eni Rovuma Basin, was accompanied by awareness campaigns on road safety, civic education and child protection. The Integrated Education Project for the Paquitequete and Pemba Community (2021-2024) has helped secure fair, high-quality pre-school and primary education through pedagogical training for teachers and educators, leadership training for head teachers, school meals for primary pupils and nursery children, and additional teaching materials and equipment for the Paquitequete, Kupurata and Kamilamba schools.
Alongside the programmes for the youngest children, we carry out initiatives to support the training of young people in Pemba and Cabo Delgado and to help them enter the job market.
The upgrade of the Pemba Commercial Institute (IICP) has provided students with a workshop for practical and technical classes, access to scholarships, and training and certification for the institute’s teachers and managers.
