The Okuafo Pa, project for agricultural training in Ghana

We operate in Ghana in oil and gas exploration and production, as well as in refining and chemicals manufacturing. Through Okuafo Pa, we have bolstered economic diversification in Ghana's agricultural sector by fostering entrepreneurship. The project has offered training and made it easier for students to enter the job market and access microcredit schemes. We have developed a self-sustaining campus model designed to foster new start-ups, bring existing businesses together, and promote cooperative models throughout the entire supply chain of key agricultural products.

In Ghana, we guarantee consistent natural gas supplies and significantly boost energy access and local economic growth through the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP). Eni launched the project in 2018 to develop oil and natural gas fields, with the gas intended exclusively for the domestic market in sub-Saharan Africa.

Project actions and objectives

Okuafo Pa: agricultural training to strengthen self-reliance

The self-sustaining campus set up under the Okuafo Pa project marked the first effort of our Project Africa initiative. It supports economic diversification in farming by teaching skills and encouraging entrepreneurship, especially by forming self-reliant cooperatives. Through the Okuafo Pa initiative, we have created a model that can be replicated across Ghana and other sub-Saharan African nations to boost income through the development of agricultural supply chains. We have fostered rural development by teaching optimal farming and livestock-rearing techniques, paying close attention to every step of the production chain. The non-profit Okuafo Pa has also handed over the centre to the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani, Bono Region, to run agricultural training and agribusiness courses for the region's young people. In the business and agri-industrial sector, at the end of 2019, we entered into a Cooperation Agreement with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, in its capacity as a financial institution for international development cooperation, to outline sustainable development initiatives. The document also proposed working together to establish ways for local communities to access credit and to utilise international funds for replicating the project.
