Our activities in Mexico

In Mexico we operate in the exploration and hydrocarbon development sector, focusing our activities in particular off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico with the Area 1 project in production.

We participate in community support initiatives with programmes on local economy development and diversification, the protection of natural and cultural heritage, and respect for human rights and inclusion. We promote initiatives aimed at protecting the continent’s forests and biodiversity. Our commitment to respect human rights is part of our path to a fair energy transition.

How we operate in the country

Exploratory offshore activities in Mexican waters

We have been present in the country since 2006 and have been concentrating our activities in the Gulf of Mexico since 2015, the year we purchased Area 1 in the Southern Basin. The find in the exploration prospect of Yatzil, in the medium-deep waters of Block 7, is confirmation of the value and strength of our portfolio of local assets, which also include the discoveries of Amoca, Miztón and Tecoalli.

Support for local communities

Thanks to a 4-year memorandum of understanding signed with UNESCO, we develop initiatives to foster local economic development. In the coastal towns of the municipality of Cardenas, in the state of Tabasco, we also pursue various education projects near school zone 46 and the Area 1 project zone. We are also launching new partnerships in five areas: education, socio-economic development and employment, healthcare, environmental sustainability and safety.
