Eni: the “Food, Energy & Life” exhibition arrives in Angola

Luanda (Angola), 19 November 2025 – From 19 to 21 November 2025, Eni brings to Angola Food, Energy & Life (FE&L), the photographic exhibition that narrates, through a visual and immersive journey, the connection between Angolan culinary traditions and energy. Inaugurated at the Iron Palace in the presence of the Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Luanda, the exhibition places local communities and the transformative impact of the Eni for Clean Cooking program at its centre, a program that ensures access to cleaner cooking solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The exhibition revolves around improved cooking systems, solutions designed to reduce biomass consumption, lower emissions, and improve indoor air quality, contributing to the sustainable development of communities. Thanks to collaboration with local partner Salesianos de Dom Bosco, the stoves are manufactured at vocational training centres in Luanda and Benguela. The improved stoves reduce by up to half the amount of fuel needed for cooking, offering safer alternatives to traditional open-fire methods, such as the three-stone system commonly used in rural areas.

The exhibition features more than 40 photographs by internationally renowned photographer and World Press Photo 2021 winner Gabriele Galimberti, documenting the program’s impact on Angolan communities. His images enter homes and villages to closely observe how food preparation and daily life change thanks to the new cooking systems. Chef and United Nations Regional Goodwill Ambassador for Africa and Ambassador for Responsible Tourism Fatmata Binta, together with Eni specialists, followed the preparation of several typical Angolan dishes, shown both in their traditional form and in the versions cooked using the improved stoves already distributed to the population. Videos, photographs, and testimonials blend into a collective story of the country’s rich gastronomic tradition, revealing the deep connection between food, health, culture, and energy.

In Angola, the Eni for Clean Cooking program, carried out with Medici con l’Africa CUAMM and Salesianos de Dom Bosco, has already reached around 750,000 people in 6 provinces, with the goal of surpassing 2 million beneficiaries by 2030. The initiative contributes to reducing emissions and preventing health risks linked to inefficient combustion, promoting the well-being of families, particularly the most vulnerable. The project also strengthens local micro-entrepreneurship through the local production of stoves: over 90% of the models distributed by Eni throughout the program are manufactured in Angola, generating job opportunities and supporting a circular economy based on craftsmanship and innovation. The program also includes educational and social interventions, such as providing technical specialization courses for around 1,500 students and 80 multi-year scholarships in environmental and renewable energy fields, the construction of two vocational training centres in Luanda and Benguela, and awareness campaigns on nutrition and basic hygiene for all families involved in the program, supporting health and education services.

The exhibition takes place in a global context in which more than 80% of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa lacks access to safe and efficient cooking systems. According to the World Health Organization, indoor air pollution causes around 3.2 million premature deaths each year, especially among women and children, while the International Energy Agency estimates that the collection of biomass for cooking contributes to the loss of 1.3 million hectares of forest annually.

Eni is committed to providing access to clean cooking solutions to over 10 million people by 2027, with the goal of reaching 20 million by 2030. The Eni for Clean Cooking program, aligned with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals, is part of Eni’s strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through a diversified set of levers and technologies, including nature-based and technology-based solutions to offset residual emissions that cannot be abated with existing technologies, generating high-quality carbon credits. By 2050, carbon credits will represent 5% of all the levers used to achieve Eni’s decarbonization goals.
