The Palazzo del Quirinale will be host from 29 March to 15 July 2014 to the exhibition Classicism and Europe. The destiny of Greece and Italy, a celebration of the roles played by the two countries as carriers of civilisation, starting from Athens and Rome, in a year in which Greece, from 1 January to 30 June, and Italy, from 1 July to 31 December, hold the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Twenty-five works, from both Greek and Italian museums, representing ideals of liberty and democracy will be on display in the Sala delle Rampe and the Sale delle Bandiere.

The exhibition has been curated by Louis Godart, Advisor for the Conservation of Artistic Heritage of the President of the Republic of Italy.

The exhibition has been promoted by the Presidencies of both the Italian and Greek republics and aims to highlight the contribution made by Italy and Greece to European and world art and culture through the presentation of a number of masterpieces of special significance in the history of the two countries.
