Eni successfully completes project for quality education in collaboration with AVSI Foundation and the Ministry of National Education and Alphabetization of Côte d’Ivoire

Abidjan, 12 November 2025 – Eni, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education and Alphabetization, its partner PETROCI, and AVSI Foundation, has successfully completed a project aimed at promoting access to quality education through the improvement of learning conditions and the rehabilitation of 22 public schools in the Sud Comoé region and the Port Bouet Municipality.

Over the course of more than three years, the project has carried out significant interventions to make school infrastructure more efficient and safe: renovation of classrooms, construction of new sanitary facilities, installation of sports fields, and connection to the electricity grid.

Teaching and learning materials were provided to improve students’ learning experience, while teachers took part in training sessions aimed at strengthening their skills, particularly in differentiated pedagogy, student monitoring and supervision, and remedial courses. A team of pedagogical advisors supported teachers, and families were engaged in awareness activities to promote education within their communities.

Thanks to these numerous initiatives, the project has helped make the school system more inclusive, efficient, and sustainable. The initiative has had a tangible impact on students, teachers, pedagogical advisors, parents, and the educational communities involved. Final results show a remarkable improvement compared to the initial situation.

Access to basic services such as water and electricity has contributed to better studying conditions, safety, and students’ health.

School performance has improved overall, with student success rate at exams increasing from 57% in 2022 to 78.7% in 2025. This progress stems from the enhanced competencies of teachers and the increased supervision by pedagogical advisors, whose schools visits increased from 39% in 2023 to 83.7% in 2025. At the same time, the school dropout rate fell from 3% to 1%, in line with the project's objectives.

In order to share the results achieved in a transparent and participatory manner, a seminar was organized gathering all the parties involved — school principals, institutional representatives, technical partners, and local communities — in a moment of sharing and promoting good practices.

To date, projects are underway aimed at the conservation and restoration of 14 forests in the Lagunes and Comoé regions, the distribution of improved cookstoves through the Eni for Clean Cooking program, launched in 2022 - which has already reached over 750,000 people and generated the first certified carbon credits - as well as the valorization of forest and agro-industrial residues in the agri-feedstock project. In the educational field, around 16,000 students have benefited from the projects developed in primary and secondary schools, more than 50 students have completed training internships at Eni and other companies in the sector as part of professional master's programmes in collaboration with the Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny (INP-HB), and around 400 young people have taken part in vocational training paths aimed at facilitating professional integration within the Pro-Jeunes and Sustainable Jobs programmes.
