- SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY
Turin, 23 May 2022 – Enjoy, Eni's car sharing service, is going electric, with the introduction of XEV YOYO city cars among its fleet. Enjoy's shared mobility revolution has begun in the City of Turin, where the new car sharing service was presented today at the City Hall in Piazza Palazzo di Città, in the presence of Chiara Foglietta, Councillor for Mobility and Transport of the City of Turin, and Fabrizio Ricca, Councillor for Youth Policies, Sport and Internationalisation of the Regional Government of Piedmont, who spoke alongside Giuseppe Ricci, Eni Energy Evolution Chief Operating Officer, and Lou Tik, Founder and CEO of XEV.
As of today, Enjoy clients in Turin can rent one of the 100 brand new XEV YOYOs via the app. The cars are immediately recognisable thanks to their unmistakable lime green colour. The new cars join the existing fleet of 300 cars and cargo vehicles already available in the city. Thanks to the agreement between Eni and XEV, a car company founded in Turin in 2018, the advantages of urban electric mobility are combined with the convenience of 'free floating' car sharing, which allows rentals to begin and end anywhere within Enjoy's coverage area, without a predefined pick-up or drop-off point. Morover, Enjoy takes care of recharging: XEV YOYO city cars allow customers to move around freely as they always come with a battery charge of more than 30%.
“Reducing polluting emissions, decreasing the use of private vehicles by favouring public transport and the use of shared vehicles are goals that we pursue to achieve our vision for an intelligent, responsible and interconnected model of mobility” said Chiara Foglietta, Councillor for Mobility and Transport of the City of Turin. “The expansion of Enjoy's fleet with the introduction of 100 new electric cars is a step in this direction. It increases and improves the offer of alternatives to private cars available to citizens and promotes the intermodality of public transport.”
"In this region that is ready and primed for innovation, Enjoy has chosen Turin as the first city in Italy to expand its car fleet, enriching it with electric-powered vehicles and contributing to actions that can improve air quality" emphasised Fabrizio Ricca, Councillor for Youth Policies, Sport and Internationalisation of the Regional Government of Piedmont. "The Piedmont Region is working hard on sustainable mobility. For example, we have invested nearly 200 million euros to renew the fleet of local public transport, by converting buses from diesel to electric for instance, to incentivize the purchase of subscriptions and to improve both corporate fleets and private vehicles. We are also looking directly at training 'mobility managers,' both in the civil service and in the business world. We thank Eni for this opportunity that will serve the people of Turin as well as the many tourists who visit our city."
“Eni is grateful to the City of Turin for the enthusiasm with which it has welcomed the Italian debut of Enjoy’s electric car sharing service, which will be extended in the coming months to the other cities where Enjoy is already operating, starting from Bologna and Florence. The development of this new offer is a revolution for urban mobility: customers will use cars only for the time and along the route they require, with zero on-the-go emissions. This system is extremely agile and enriches both our offer of sustainable products and the services available at our service stations, where the batteries of the new Enjoy cars are changed, a service that will soon be available to private customers too. Projects like this also shorten our path towards total decarbonisation of Eni's products and processes by 2050”, said Giuseppe Ricci, Chief Operating Officer for Energy Evolution at Eni.
“We are proud that the new Enjoy fleet of 100 XEV YOYOs is available for the first time in Turin, the city where XEV was born. Our corporate vision is to bring about freedom of mobility and a sustainable society. This car sharing partnership with Eni is a significant achievement and a solid step into the future" said Lou Tik, Founder and CEO of XEV.
Since it began operations in Turin in 2015, Enjoy has rented out more than 2 million cars in the city, making car sharing a popular alternative to private vehicles, with benefits in terms of traffic decongestion and quality of life for those who live and work in the city. Renting Enjoy vehicles in Turin provides advantages such as free access to the Centrale and Romana low emission zones and free parking in blue spaces. Enjoy has over 1 million customers in Italy and has exceeded 14 million rentals since 2013. With a total fleet of 2,500 vehicles, Enjoy is also present in Milan, Bologna, Florence and Rome, where electric car sharing with XEV YOYO city cars will be introduced in the coming months.
How Enjoy works
In order to rent Enjoy vehicles, users need to download an app that is available on Android, iOS and Huawei stores. After registering they can search for, view and book vehicles available nearby or in their area of interest, or rent an Enjoy vehicle along their route by entering the licence plate number and the code that can be found on the windscreen into the app. Once the vehicle has been accessed and unlocked, the rental is done through the smartphone until arrival at the destination. At the end, users can view a summary of the rental costs incurred. All Enjoy rental rates are available online. For XEV YOYO city cars, as for the other cars in the fleet, the rate is €0.29/min.
The XEV YOYO city car
The XEV YOYO is a fully electric city car with a top speed of 80 km/h and a range of up to 150 km: equipped with a sunroof, small and agile, it is the ideal car for city centres. To recharge, in addition to plug-in columns, XEV YOYO cars are designed for battery swapping, which can be done in just a few minutes. Eight Eni service stations are set up in Turin for this purpose. Enjoy will also take care of recharging with battery swapping. The XEV YOYO cars in the Enjoy fleet are supplied through a long-term rental service by SIFÀ, Società Italiana Flotte Aziendali - BPER Bank Group.
