Our Supply Chain, a shared commitment to the energy transition

We believe in everyone’s commitment to achieve a socially just energy transition, preserve the environment and ensure affordable energy.

The role of the Supply Chain in the transformation process

We support a socially just energy transition to protect the environment and ensure that energy is accessible to all. We recognise the key role of our Supply Chain in the transformation process and promote its development in a sustainable way. We believe in a shared commitment based on common values, principles and objectives throughout the entire Supply Chain. That is why we invest in tools, initiatives and systemic solutions to support all organisations, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, in embarking on a concrete path towards development and competitiveness within the context of the energy and digital transition.

The programme for a competitive and sustainable Supply Chain

An initiative aimed at suppliers to improve their performance and skills in the context of the energy transition.

"Supply Chain Energy”: tools and services for businesses

Following a self-assessment, the programme provides an integrated set of operational tools and services to support the key areas identified, accompanying companies during the implementation phase with dialogue, practical training and progress monitoring, with a view to continuous improvement and strengthening collaboration along the Supply Chain.

The three pillars of our commitment

Committees

A systemic and inclusive approach

We are committed to engaging every level of the Supply Chain in a process of improvement, sharing common objectives and adopting a diversified model based on the ESG maturity of companies. We provide specific tools for the sustainable development of small and medium-sized enterprises and encourage larger players to take a leading role in the transformation process to support the supply chains. To facilitate convergence towards sustainable models across the entire value chain, we promote multi-stakeholder initiatives.
Open-es, for example, is a systemic initiative that unites the industrial, financial, and associations sectors to assist businesses in measuring and enhancing their ESG dimensions, with the aim of creating value and benefits for the entire entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Development and enhancement of best practices

We support suppliers in meeting diverse ESG requirements by providing tools to assist their sustainable development process and, more broadly, their business competitiveness:

  • measurement and improvement tools, such as the Open-es platform, which offers a pathway based on standard metrics aligned with the evolving regulatory context, enabling companies to assess their ESG maturity level, benchmark against industry standards, access tailored development plans, and obtain solutions from selected specialists in the ESG field
  • financial support programmes to assist the Supply Chain such as the “Sustainable Supply Chain Finance” initiative, which allows suppliers to receive early payment of invoices without credit impact, incentivising improvements to their ESG profile through synergy with the Open-es platform. In 2025, under the Sustainable Supply Chain Finance initiative, early payments totalling approximately €240 million were granted
  • initiatives such as the Supply Chain Awards, promoting the adoption of best practices by rewarding companies that stand out in the ESG area
  • the "Supply Chain Energy" programme, a supplier development initiative focused on the industrial sectors most affected by the transformation of Eni’s businesses, with the aim of encouraging and supporting suppliers in defining a plan for improvement and competitiveness within an evolving market context. In 2025, the programme focused on the Versalis Chemicals Transformation Plan and involved more than 200 SMEs.

ESG pervasiveness in the procurement process

We integrate the principles of environmental protection, social growth, and economic development into every phase of our process. With this approach, we have adopted the “Sustainable Supply Chain Framework,” a governance mechanism that aligns business objectives, regulatory requirements, targets, and specific action plans impacting the procurement process and, more generally, the Supply Chain. This framework is implemented through cross-functional oversight of various sustainability dimensions, focusing on priority ESG themes periodically identified based on the corporate strategic plan and the evolution of the regulatory framework.

Open-es: a system alliance to integrate and promote supply chain sustainability

The community for corporate sustainability

A system alliance created to integrate and promote sustainability within supply chains. This is the role of Open-es, an initiative we support with the aim of uniting the efforts of key players in the sectors of industry, finance and in associations and institutions. Through a single, collaborative, and free digital platform, we assist businesses on their growth path in the realm of sustainability.

The systemic approach is indeed the only effective way to reach all businesses along the Supply chain, engaging them in coordinated and focused programmes and challenges, monitoring their performance and improvement plans while avoiding the risk of multiplying similar requests that could lead to a detrimental bureaucratic burden, particularly for smaller companies.

With over 40,000 companies taking part (figures as at 2025), of which around 9,000 are linked to the Eni Supply chain, Open-es brings together an increasingly diverse range of economic stakeholders seeking practical support for their operational and growth needs in the ESG area, forming an interconnected community that aims to pool expertise and bring together efforts towards sustainability goals within a single, shared digital space.

A digital platform to measure and improve ESG performance

In a context where the need to measure and improve sustainability performance within industrial supply chains is becoming increasingly important, Open-es presents itself as an innovative solution that aims to simplify and trace the ESG path. It does so by engaging the entire value chain through an open and collaborative digital platform that acts as a catalyst for the sustainable growth of the production system. This platform centres on the ESG profile of companies, featuring standardised and transparent measurement models while encompassing the overall framework of supply chains and commercial relationships. This enables each player to collaborate effectively with their stakeholders (suppliers, customers, partners, investors, associations, etc.). It functions as a sort of social network, granting each business full ownership and control over its data and connections, with a specific focus on plans and solutions for improvement.

Open-es allows all businesses to embark on a guided journey that dynamically tracks their ESG maturity level, adapting to all sectors and types of companies, from SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) to large industrial groups. All companies have the opportunity to create their own ESG profile and share it with their stakeholders, enabling them to concentrate on defining and implementing their improvement plans without duplication.

Training initiatives available to all companies in the community

Collaboration, innovation, and training form the key to improving even the smallest companies’ responses to sustainable transformation processes. This is the aim of the training initiatives launched by Open-es, which are accessible to all companies within the community.

Through the series of free events titled “Open-es ESG Skills: The Community meets the experts,” companies have the opportunity to engage with industry experts on specific, highly relevant ESG topics (regulatory updates, safety, transition plans, governance and tools for sustainable growth, energy efficiency, cybersecurity and risk management, etc.).

In addition, there are other initiatives dedicated to SMEs, such as Open-es Camp, a training programme with a workshop approach that includes project work activities for the immediate application of the acquired sustainability skills. Another recent example is the “ESG Manager Identity Card” training programme, launched in collaboration with Federmanager. This course is specifically designed for ESG managers and consists of both specialised modules and experiential action learning opportunities through company visits.
