Climate and decarbonization
Our proactive and tangible actions towards achieving net decarbonization of processes and products by 2050.
We contribute to providing affordable and increasingly sustainable energy for people and the environment, with a view to long-term value creation.
Sustainability is about ensuring that the needs of the present are met without compromising the future of the next generations. We contribute to providing affordable energy for people in an increasingly environmentally sustainable manner. We expand access to energy through technologies that progressively reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Our integrated sustainability strategy is described in Eni for, the report which shows the link between our mission and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, recounting the progress of local development projects launched in Italy and around the world.
This year Eni has drawn up its first Sustainability Report in line with European regulations. Eni’s Sustainability Statement, drawn up in accordance with the Legislative Decree no. 125/2024, is published within the Annual Report, in line with the company’s process of integrating non-financial with financial information, as of 2010. For the Sustainability Statement see pages 132-267 of the 2024 Annual Report in the “Annual and Quarterly Reports” section. Within this context, Eni for is a complementary addition to the Sustainability Report, as it aims to present Eni’s sustainability information to stakeholders more clearly and concisely. To ensure that Eni for clearly communicates our strategy to stakeholders, we have also included case studies, insights and interviews that illustrate the company’s commitments and actions.
At Eni, our work is guided by a clear vision that combines business with sustainability and aligns growth with responsibility. With the support of our people and stakeholders, we will continue to generate value for society and communities, turning challenges into opportunities and pioneering safer, more sustainable energy for all.
Claudio Descalzi
Ceo of Eni
We create value for all our stakeholders through five main strands: Carbon neutrality by 2050, Environmental protection, The value of our people, Development alliances, and Sustainability in the value chain.
We have embarked on a path that will lead to the decarbonisation of processes and products by 2050, taking into account the emissions generated throughout energy products’ lifecycle. Leveraging current and emerging technologies, Eni will be able to drive down its carbon footprint, both in terms of net emissions and net carbon intensity. In this context, we believe that natural gas has a role as a bridge energy source in the transition, due to its accessibility, reliability, versatility and lower carbon content compared to other traditional fuels, working alongside other technological and energy solutions that will gradually become more and more important in meeting energy demand.
We are committed to protecting the environment by seeking innovative solutions to minimise the impact of our activities, while ensuring an efficient use of natural resources, the protection of biodiversity and water resources, and the promotion of development models that are based on the regenerative principles of the circular economy, with the aim of maximising waste recovery and reuse.
We acknowledge the importance of our people as a key factor in the company’s success. Therefore, we ensure a workplace free from discrimination, fostering the full development of everyone’s potential and encouraging a culture that values knowledge sharing. We also respect the highest international health and safety standards and take appropriate measures to protect people and assets.
We aim to help reduce energy poverty in the countries where we operate, combining industrial project development and initiatives for host communities, transferring skills and knowledge to local partners. In line with the “Dual Flag” strategy, we operate with respect for each person, knowledge of local needs and a readiness to collaborate with nations to foster sustainable growth, including through partnerships with nationally and internationally esteemed entities. In these countries, we champion initiatives that help local communities, not only improving access to energy but also supporting education and economic diversification, protecting the land, and improving community health, water and sanitation access. In doing so, we collaborate with global partners, aligning our work with National Development Plans and the 2030 Agenda.
We promote the sustainable development of our supply chain, recognising its key role in the transformation process. Through a systemic and inclusive approach, Eni shares values, commitments and targets with its suppliers, supporting them and involving them in the growth process. We support our customers by offering cutting-edge energy solutions to help them play a leading role in the energy transition, and we communicate transparently, providing quality products and services in line with their needs.
