Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi meets FAO Director-General Graziano da Silva

Rome, 11 April 2017 – Eni Chief Executive Officer, Claudio Descalzi, and the Director-General of FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) Graziano da Silva met today in Rome at the Organization’s headquarters. Eni’s CEO and FAO’s DG discussed possible partnerships in developing countries, and agreed to identify the places and the initiatives in which they might cooperate.

Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) are recognized as essential tools to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations in 2015 (the Sustainable Development Goals), so much so that it the UN dedicated them the last one of the 17 goals of the agenda - the only one not related to a specific development issue, but aimed to promote the whole agenda. The role of PPP is also central in the UN’s Addis Ababa Action Agenda, drafted by the Third International Conference on Financing for Development held in July 2015.

Eni promotes a broad portfolio of initiatives in the country where it operates, to support local development and local communities and make a long-term positive impact. The initiatives focus in particular on access to energy, agriculture, fishing, promoting local entrepreneurship, education and training, health, water and improved sanitation.

Furthermore, Eni maintains a constant dialogue with the United Nations and in 2001 joined the UN Global Compact, the initiative founded in July 2000 by the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to encourage businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable policies and accounting of their progress. Moreover, within the Global Compact, Eni participates in the Global Compact LEAD initiative, focused on global corporations deemed able to play a global leadership role for their commitment to sustainable development.
