- SUSTAINABILITY
Pemba, 4 December 2023 – Eni Rovuma Basin on behalf of Area 4 Partners, ExxonMobil, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Kogas, Galp and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), together with the government authorities of Cabo Delgado province, laid today the first stone for the construction and expansion of the radiology center and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Pemba provincial hospital. This project is implemented under the cooperation agreement signed with the Ministry of Health (MISAU), in December 2022, aimed to support the strengthening of national health services.
The ceremony was attended by the provincial Secretary of State, Mr. António Supeia, and the Managing Director of Eni Rovuma Basin, Ms. Marica Calabrese. The construction works include the expansion of the radiology block, donation and installation of a Computed Tomography Scan (TAC) with a dedicated waiting room, construction of a new intensive care unit, fully equipped with the capacity of 4 additional beds. The installation of the new radiology unit will allow the health authorities in Cabo Delgado to perform medical examinations and diagnoses that were previously performed outside the province, creating some constraints for patients in serious conditions.
Moreover, the support to Pemba hospital also includes the training component for ICU nurses and radiology technicians, in order to upgrade their skills for an optimal use of the new equipment. This project will be implemented in partnership with AISPO, an NGO specialized in implementing health projects in developing countries.
The partnership with the Mozambican Health Authorities reaffirms once again the commitment by Eni and the Area 4 partners to continue promoting the well-being of the communities in the countries where we operate, therefore contributing to improve the access to health services, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
