Luanda (Angola), 27 July 2021 – The international health cooperation project, promoted by Eni in collaboration with Angola’s Health Ministry, has kicked-off in Divina Providencia hospital Luanda with training sessions for sixteen doctors. These training sessions include telemedicine and hands-on training carried out by specialist doctors from the Italian institute Don Calabria, with the aim to enhance the specialist skills of Angolan doctors.
The training activities are part of a broader initiative launched in November 2019 and aimed at providing capacity building and training to Angolan doctors by means of a twinning program with Italian reference health institutions. Luanda’s Josina Machel Hospital, David Bernadino Pediatric Hospital and Divina Providencia Hospital are participating in the initiative, and state of the art training is provided by Italian health institutes Monzino Hospital, Istituto Don Calabria and Istituto Gaslini. Areas of intervention include Cardiac Surgery, Pediatric Nephrology and Dialysis, Pediatric Hematology, Pediatric Neurology, Mother and Child Health, Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology, Nutrition and referral system at primary healthcare care level.
The project is based on a 5m$ investment. To date, more than 40 doctors of David Bernardino Pediatric hospital have received online training on Hematology and Nephrology by Italy’s Istituto Gaslini. Professors from Gaslini will also travel to Luanda to provide hands-on training to their Angolan counterparts. Cardiac surgeries will also be performed in Josina Michel hospital with the cooperation of Monzino hospital Milan.
Within the framework of this International health project, activities are also going to take place in Cabinda, in parallel with other health development initiatives that are part of Eni’s Local Development Plan. All initiatives are in line with the plans of the Angolan Government for sustainable development and growth, as well as with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Eni is operator of block 15/06, and exploration blocks Cabinda North, Cabinda Centro, 1/14 and 28, and is also operator of the New Gas Consortium (NGC). In addition, Eni has a stake in the non-operated blocks 0 (Cabinda), 3/05, 3/05A, 14, 14K/A-IMI, 15 and in Angola LNG.
