Mexico City (Mexico), 13 October 2020 – Eni Mexico and AVSI México A.C. have signed a local cooperation agreement in order to enhance educational skills and expertise in the communities living in the area of operations of Eni Mexico, in the municipality of Cárdenas. This initiative is part of the activities devised within the collaboration agreement between Eni Mexico and the State of Tabasco.
The agreement aims to improve access to education, school retention, skills and learning of the primary schools pupils in the School area 46 community. This will be achieved by menas of workshops, by training programmes for teachers as well as administrative and managerial staff, by promoting children involvement and improving school meals.
The Managing Director of Eni Mexico, Carmine De Lorenzo, stated that “This is the first agreement of Eni Mexico with a civil society organisation. Our target is to strengthen alliances with organizations that are experienced on the key issues for community development in the areas where Eni Mexico operates, in order to have a practical and long-term impact”. The projects are aligned with the National, Federal and Municipal Development Plans and with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations (UN) 2030 agenda.
Rossana Stanchi, Representative of AVSI in Mexico, commented: “With this agreement, education will become a tool to achieve positive change both professionally and socially, as it involves the different actors that converge in the educational sphere”.
The AVSI Foundation, an NGO founded in 1972, carries out cooperation projects for development in over 30 countries in the world, with a focus on education. Its mission strives to defend and enhance people’s dignity, a value that is at the core of every project. AVSI has worked for over 20 years in Mexico where, in collaborations with local partners, it has pursued many projects in the most vulnerable regions of the south and south-east of the country, and measures that involved families and minors in the community development sector, informal education and training for school personnel. It also operates with partners based in Mexico City, Jalisco, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Puebla and Campeche, and in 2018 alone it has granted direct support for over 17,000 people. AVSI promotes long term sustainable development even under exceptional circumstances, and its projects support the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN Agenda 2030, as each person, working in synergy with family and local community, becomes an actor of development. Under this approach, education becomes a tool to change for the better people’s professional life together with their community.
