In 2016 we started the first cycle of the project dedicated to public schools in Luanda, with the aim of raising student's awareness towards reading. As part of three Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) contracts signed by the provincial council of Education, we supplied over 8 thousand educational books to 25 schools, that is, 41 thousands students. Since 2019, with the start of phase four of the project, we have started supplying school desks as well as the books. The fifth phase of the project will commence in 2021.
We support integration in the Huila and Namibe provinces
In 2017, as part of an MoU signed between Eni Angola, the Ministry of Energy and Water and the Ministry of Health, we started an integrated social project that contributes to the improvement of the living conditions of nine communities affected by drought in the southern provinces of Huila and Namibe. To reach the project’s main objective, solar systems and water systems have been installed to provide energy and water to the communities, including schools and health centres. the project is also targeting the promotion of health and farming activities in order to promote social awareness in communities. For this reason the project has integrated a school programme involving over 20 schools. In 2019, a night school was launched, it now has over 170 students thanks to electricity and solar systems now available in the schools.
Social Project of Renovation of the Beira Nova School in Cabinda
We are starting a social project in the northern province of Cabinda, where, together with Eni Angola, we acquired the Operatorship on the Cabinda North onshore block. It consists in the restructuring of the Beira Nova school for which in March 2019 an MoU was signed between Eni Angola and the Administration of the Municipality of Cacongo. The school is being fully restored and fully equipped so that approximately 300 students will have quality education conditions. The works will end April 2020.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is an action plan signed in September 2015 by 193 UN member states. It incorporates 17 goals aimed at the socio-economic development of communities and regions. In line with the fourth goal, we help provide equal, inclusive education to local communities, and quality learning opportunities for all (Goal 4).
The solar system we have installed has changed the life of the schooling community. We can now do what we couldn't in the past, like use computers and printers, have a canteen and a television.
