We are committed to safeguarding the environment in all our activities.
Our actions to preserve the environment are based on criteria of precaution, protection, information and participation, in all the countries in which we operate. We promote environmental protection through the identification and prevention of potential impacts, efficient management of natural resources and by adopting solutions oriented towards energy efficiency and the principles of circularity. In this perspective, the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable management of water and other natural resources also contribute to the fight against climate change, favouring the capacity of ecosystems to absorb carbon and to be more resilient to extreme natural events. Preserving the natural terrestrial, aquatic and marine environment, producing energy accessible to all and accompanying more sustainable consumption patterns are some of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, signed by world leaders. These are the same objectives that, as a global energy tech company, we use as a reference to guide our actions and investments.
Our commitment to operating responsibly and protecting ecosystems whilst preserving the environment and the planet.
The transition process also uses the circular economy as a lever to guide society towards a regenerative model.
Head of Environment at Eni
We adopt the best available techniques (BAT) and follow international technical standards. Our integrated HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) management system sets out the roles, responsibilities and processes for managing the environmental and occupational health and safety aspects of tasks across the company’s sectors of operation.
In particular, all entities at significant HSE risk have an ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) certified management system, or plan to obtain them. As of the end of 2025, 94% of group entities have achieved ISO 45001 certification and 93% ISO 14001. Likewise, all entities at limited risk have implemented an HSE management system or plan to develop one (for more information, see the List of certifications obtained by Eni subsidiary companies). Third-party audits are carried out annually and every three years respectively for the maintenance and renewal of certificates, in accordance with the requirements of the standard.
