After the signing, there was a presentation by Eni chief executive Claudio Descalzi, entitled "The transition of energy towards a low carbon future."
San Donato Milanese (Milano), 29 April 2016 – Many of the measures of EU energy and environment policy are aimed at the progressive reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, as seen at the COP21 conference in Paris that resulted in the first ever universal agreement on climate, signed last Friday in New York by more than 170 countries.
This is the context for the renewal of the collaboration between Eni and the Politecnico di Torino that began in 2008. The focus of the agreement signed today is all-round technological innovation, in particular regarding the development of sustainable growth in the energy sector. The application of increasingly intelligent and eco-friendly technologies for the exploration of fossil fuels and the definition of new materials, as well as the study of processes to support renewable energies and environmental monitoring, are just some of the areas that will be pursued and which will make possible the ability to improve the performance of business processes and their integration in the territories in which the company operates.
Following the signing of the agreement, Claudio Descalzi, chief executive of Eni, held a presentation on how to manage the transition of energy towards a low carbon future in order to limit climate change.
Marco Gilli, rector of the Politecnico di Torino commented: "The Politecnico is building an international reputation as one of the focal points for research into energy systems, as the recent opening of the Energy Centre in Turin demonstrates; it is an area that increasingly demands an interdisciplinary approach and the total engagement of the leading public and private players in the socio-economic system. Our partnership with Eni is based on a consolidated collaborative relationship that aims to develop a multiyear programme of training and research that focuses on the application of cutting-edge technologies to energy systems, with the synergic and joint contribution of research from both bodies and the active participation of students.
Claudio Descalzi, chief executive of Eni, commented: " Eni’s history has been built on research and technological innovation for the creation of value for our future. This is why, in the complex scenario currently being experienced in the oil industry, we continue to invest in research. Our collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino is a long term relationship that has its roots in the 1960s and that in recent years has produced significant results. Eni continues to collaborate with centres of excellence both in Italy and abroad and, in this way, sends a concrete message and makes a real contribution to the big issue of energy transition."
