Rome, 10 February 2016 - The Prime Minister of Iraq, Haydar al-Abadi, met today in Rome Eni’s Chief Executive Officer, Claudio Descalzi. The meeting took place in Palazzo Chigi, home of the Italian Government, in the margin of the Iraqi’s Prime Minister visit in Italy.
During the meeting, Eni’s CEO and the Prime Minister al-Abadi had the opportunity to discuss of the development prospects of the oil sector in Iraq as well as of the activities of Zubair oil field, operated by Eni. Zubair, located near the city of Basra, is considered one of the largest oil fields in the country, with a total production of about 360,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Eni has been present in Iraq since 2009. Production comes from the Zubair field (Eni's stake 41.6%) which in 2014 produced 21,000 boe per day net to Eni. Production and development activities are governed by a Technical Service Contract.
