On the 1st of June 2011 the prize-giving ceremony for the 2010-2011 international Schoolnet initiative was held on 1 June 2011 at the Francesco Stabile Theatre in Potenza, Basilicata, southern Italy.
The event, now in its fourth year, is organized by Eni and targeted at middle schools in Val d'Agri, Val Camastra and Val Basento. However, it also encompasses schools located in regions of countries where Eni operates. These include Angola, the USA (Alaska), Australia, Indonesia, Norway, Pakistan, East Timor and, from this year, Tunisia. The ceremony was attended by the Basilicata students, who also won first place in this year's "national prize" category, while contestants from other countries took part via teleconference.
The topic given to schools this year was - Music: a universal language. The guiding thread for projects was traditional music as expressed through dance, singing and other artistic forms, but also as a theme for research into and description of old and modern musical instruments.
Over 700 pupils from 23 schools took part and 28 projects were presented.
The event was run by Eni with the support of the Italian Ministry for Education, the Regional Government of Basilicata and the institutions and departments of education of the various countries involved.
