Nigerian Agip Exploration (NAE) and Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC), the fully owned Eni companies operating offshore and onshore of Nigeria respectively, have been honored as the best corporate organizations amongst those that have distinguished themselves in the quest to promote local content in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria. The Vice Chairman/Managing Director, NAE/NAOC, Mr. Massimo Insulla, received the 2014 Local Content Operator of the Year Award, presented by the umbrella group for indigenous entrepreneurs, Petroleum Engineering and Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), during a ceremony held at Port Harcourt on the 3rd of December.
Nigeria has one of the most developed and modern legislation regarding local content, with the Nigerian Oil Gas Industries Content Development (NOGICD) Act, which came into force in 2010. This recognition proves one more time the commitment Eni has in regards to local content development, and the excellent work done during these years by its people in the implementation of effective initiatives to boost local capacity and give opportunities to local goods and services providers to step-up to the high standard requirements in the oil and gas business.
Since 1962 Eni in Nigeria has been promoting initiatives centered in capacity building by means of training and gap closure programs, HSE awareness campaigns, domiciliation of work in-country, patronage of Nigerian made materials, enhancement of the country’s industrial capacity, transfer of technology, execution of capacity development projects to assist indigenous companies and host communities build up enterprises and achieve sustainable socio-economic growth, including supply of electricity from our plants thereby, empowering Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with increased production capacity.
Moreover Eni in Nigeria co-funded the Nigerian content support fund and actively participates in the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum.
