San Donato Milanese (Milan), 23 November 2012 – Eni's aim in supporting the special openings of the exhibition Giovanni Bellini:from icon to history is to facilitate access to cultural events. The special openings will take place between 10.00 and 18.00 during the normal opening hours of the Museo Poldi Pezzoli), on 26 November 2012, 10 and 17 December 2012 and 14 January 2013. . Thanks to Eni's sponsorship, visitors will be able to enjoy the exhibition free of charge.
The show stems from the restoration of Giovanni Bellini's Imago Pietatis, which provided the opportunity to study the masterpiece's preparatory drawing and painting technique in depth and to compare these against those of other contemporary works by the same painter.
The exhibition traces the evolution of the Pietà in Giovanni Bellini's early work, between 1457 and 1470, displaying, side by side, four extraordinary masterpieces by the artist on this theme, housed in the Museo Poldi Pezzoli in Milan, the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, the Museo Correr in Venice and the Museo della Città in Rimini.
Countless events have been organised in Milan in collaboration with Eni: Estate al museo (Summer at the museum), with the special openings of the Civic Museums of Milan during the summer months; the evening openings of the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, where Leonardo painted the world-famous Last Supper; and the exhibition, now in its fourth edition, displaying iconic masterpieces of art at Milan's Palazzo Marino.
Ever since Eni was first founded by Enrico Mattei, the company's commitment to culture has offered the company an important means, as a large energy concern, to connect with the social fabric of the countries in which it operates. The company believes that the main goal of every project it undertakes should be to support the development of the specific region, and is convinced that facilitating access to culture promotes the development of society.
