schoolnet, culture embraces a world of traditions

On 27 May 2013 the 2012-2013 edition of the a prize-giving ceremony for the international schoolnet initiative will be held at the Teatro Francesco Stabile di Potenza. Sponsored by Eni, the initiative is aimed at first level secondary schools in the Val d’Agri, Val Camastra and Val Basento and other regions in countries where Eni operates: Alaska, Australia, Indonesia, Norway, Pakistan, Timor-Leste, Tunisia and Venezuela.

The ceremony, which closes the sixth year of the initiative, will be attended by students from Lucania, and in video conference, those from the other nations.

The theme presented to the schools is Traditional Festivals, both as a way to rediscover the typical cultural expressions of different regions and to reflect on the importance of traditions for the enhancement of the memory, identity and perspectives of a community.

The aim of the initiative is to promote dialogue between young people from different regions of the world and to encourage cultural integration. It also offers a unique and unrepeatable opportunity to meet and exchange ideas. Around 1,000 children were involved in the initiative.

For over 10 years Eni has offered to the students of the Val d’Agri, Val Camastra and Val Basento initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue between institutions and a closer examination of issues concerning the Basilicata region. In the 2007-2008 academic year, the initiative was extended to other countries in which Eni operates, to enhance different environments and cultural backgrounds and expand the opportunities for dialogue among the students.

The initiative was organised by Eni in collaboration with the Ministry of Education – the Basilicata Region Education Department, the Region of Basilicata and the institutions and departments of education in the respective countries.
