Eni is the main partner of  the exhibition Giovanni Bellini. From an icon to history, to be held from 9 November 2012 to 25 February 2013, at the Museo Poldi Pezzoli in Milan.
The exhibition has been extended until 4 March 2013.

The exhibition illustrates the evolution of the iconography of the Pietà in the work of Bellini (1450-1470), through a selection of around a dozen works presented with an educational and informative approach, accompanied by a video with technical details about the restoration.

A comparison of four of the artist’s masterpieces depicting the Pietà from the Museo Poldi Pezzoli, the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo, the Correr Museum in Venice and the Museum of the City of Rimini, permits an analysis of the maturation of Giovanni Bellini’s artistic language, from the initial influence of Mantegna and Donatello to the full flowering of his own style.

Also presented and promoted are a number of works of the Venetian Renaissance, held by the Museo Poldi Pezzoli, from the third quarter of the fifteenth century, works such as the Madonna Enthroned with Child and Angels by Antonio Vivarini, the small Deposition painted on parchment by Lazzaro Bastiani, the Madonna and Child by the same artist and the Crucifixion by Alvise Vivarini, a demonstration of how Bellini’s innovative artistic language influenced other Venetian masters who were his contemporaries.
