Gas&LNG Marketing

A collaboration for growth since the 1980s.

Domestic Gas

NAOC holds the distinction of having built the first natural gas recycling plant in Nigeria, at Akri-Oguta in Imo State, in a joint venture with Shell.

The beginning of a long relationship

It went on to invest in large scale gas injection plants with the construction of the Obiafu-Obrikom (Ob-Ob) Gas Plant in Rivers State in 1985, and the Kwale Gas Plant in Delta State in 1987. To facilitate domestic gas utilization, NAOC expanded its Ob-Ob plant in 1994 to supply NGL feedstock and fuel Gas to Eleme Petrochemical Company Limited (Indorama), for the production of polymers. This, again, was the first investment of its kind in Nigeria dedicated exclusively to the domestic market.

Export Gas – LNG

Eni is a shareholder in the Nigeria LNG project. NAOC JV is also a gas supplier for the six trains of the LNG Terminal located in Bonny. In fact, it was the NAOC JV that supplied the test gas for the start-up of the project in 1999.

These projects are all part of the comprehensive Gas Master Plan (GMP) which NAOC is currently implementing to gather and channel all its associated gas for commercialization, with the objective of supporting the country’s developmental goals, and also achieving zero gas flaring at all its sites.
