Adam: our photovoltaic project in Tunisia

The energy produced by the 5 MWp Adam photovoltaic plant will be used at the adjacent Adam field site.

Providing energy for the Adam oilfield

In December 2019, we inaugurated the Adam photovoltaic plant, which is located in the Tataouine Governorate and of which we are 50% operators. The energy produced will be used directly by the industrial site, reducing gas consumption and saving the equivalent of 6,500 tonnes of CO2eq emissions per year. The 5MW installation is one element of our co-operation agreement with the nationally-owned Entreprise Tunisienne d’Activités Pétrolières (ETAP) to develop projects generating renewable forms of energy in Tunisia. The project is further confirmation of our commitment to decarbonizing the country’s energy system.

Safety first

Safety in the workplace is an imperative value we want to share with our employees, contractors and local stakeholders. We are committed to eliminate accidents and protect the integrity of our assets. We consolidate a culture of safety through management and organization models, digital tools and communication initiatives. Our goal is strengthening the awareness of our people and their sense of responsibility toward themselves and others, by expanding HSE tools and digitalization to make corporate processes safer, more efficient and faster.

Technologies adopted

This innovative plant combines the existing gas turbine power generation system with a photovoltaic system and a 2.2 MWp/1.5 MWh battery accumulator to cover the power fluctuations of the photovoltaic system, reduce the load on the gas turbines and avoid sudden load variations. The current load-sharing percentage is 60% solar photovoltaic and 40% gas turbine. Data and control systems (SCADA) provide real-time remote monitoring of the power plant.
