Eni together with Videocittà

Eni returned as the Main Partner of Videocittà, the Festival dedicated to digital vision and culture that was held from 5 to 7 July 2024 at the Gazometro Complex in Rome Ostiense. As it does every year, the event explored the frontiers of audiovisual and digital communication and offered the public numerous moments of spectacle, networking and entertainment. Our presence focused on the enhancement of our integrated approach to energy through which, together with companies Enilive and Plenitude, it meets customers’ everyday needs with a comprehensive range of energy services, solutions and products.

This concept is expressed in the ‘Nebula’ installation, the site-specific installation also created in the Gazometro.
“Nebula”, a work by Quiet Ensemble with original music by Giorgio Moroder, created by Eni with the executive production of Eventi Italiani and curated by Videocittà, can be seen from various locations in Rome, and for those who were able to experience it from the inside, it offered a unique immersive experience in which the spectator traverses, in an emotional and abstract narrative, the elements of the Earth, ploughs through the emptiness of space, losing him/herself in the enchantment of a nebula, to see its transformation and admire the energy that animates it, endlessly capable of living forever. Like Nebula, Eni stands out as a harmonious ensemble of different companies working together for a common goal: different but complementary energies united in a single, credible process of transforming the very idea of energy.

Building on the success of its last edition, Videocittà is expanding its programme to include exclusive AV performances, talk shows with prominent speakers and a special celebration of the 150th anniversary of Guglielmo Marconi’s birth. The programme also included the national premiere of the “ODE corporis” VR project by the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and a series of virtual reality and video art experiences. The location of the Gazometro was therefore transformed into an audiovisual district, hosting light installations, sounds and a packed programme of events that have spanned the Roman nights, making Videocittà an unmissable event for fans of new digital cultures.

A look back at previous editions of Videocittà

The festival aims to be a meeting point for artists, digital creators and visionaries from all over the world, strengthening the connection between technology, inclusion and sustainability. The festival has hosted hundreds of events, AV performances, multimedia installations, videomapping (such as the Paradoxa installation on the Palazzo Eni in EUR) and video art, exhibitions, conferences and screenings, with the attendance of national and international guests, including Oscar winners, Golden and Silver Lion winners at the Venice Biennale, avant-garde talents and performers.

In 2023, the centrepiece of the event was Mater Terrae, an immersive installation designed to captivate the audience with its 3,000 square metres of projection, through a close dialogue with the original music of Italian musician and composer Mace, author of major musical hits in recent years. The video content, made up of a mix of real and digital images, took the audience on a virtual journey from the centre of the Earth to the immensity of the Universe, with a space-enhancing sound aimed at amplifying the emotions offered by the multisensory journey.

Videocittà, conceived in 2018, arrived at the Gazometro in Roma Ostiense after having passed through different spaces in the city: evocative squares in the historic centre, institutional venues, galleries and museums such as the Maxxi Museum, and spaces converted for culture and entertainment such as the former barracks in Via Guido Reni and the former customs house in San Lorenzo. Edition after edition, the guiding thread of the festival remains its ability to lead the audience on a journey of transformation and innovation.
