Giorgio Morandi in the Eni Collection at Palazzo Esposizioni Roma

"Giorgio Morandi nella collezione Eni" is the title of the exhibition hosted in the Sala Fontana at Palazzo Esposizioni Roma from 10 December 2025 to 11 January 2026. This exhibition celebrates Eni's artistic heritage: a remarkable collection, initiated by Enrico Mattei in the late 1940s and early 1950s, that reflects the company's continuous and lasting commitment to cultural support.

The dialogue between culture and industry in Mattei’s vision

Eni’s body of works features some of the most significant Italian artists of the twentieth century, including Giorgio Morandi, De Pisis, Tosi, Tomea, Rosai, and Sironi. This important art asset marks an important chapter in the history of corporate art collecting in Italy. Over the years, such an extensive archive has continued to grow, revealing a deep and enduring relationship with the world of art. Today, that bond is further strengthened through prestigious collaborations with museums and institutions of international standing.

The works on display

The two still lifes exhibited in the Room, allow us to admire the evolution of Morandi’s vision over time. The first work, created in 1919, shows us a sharp, clear world, with objects isolated from one another. The second, painted in 1941—almost twenty years later—leads us toward a greater maturity of the artist, which is manifested through denser surfaces and a refinement of his gaze. In these simple, non-decorative objects, Mattei recognised the values aligned with his own: essentiality, sobriety, and discipline.

The exhibition layout

The exhibition itinerary unfolds within the Sala Fontana, where the walls, covered with a texture inspired by Morandi's works, create an atmosphere of silence, light, and balance.  Within this setting, the visitor experiences two parallel and complementary narratives: on one side, a sequence of images and texts recounts the genesis of the collection, while the story of the two still lifes, on the other, conveys the values and principles foundational to Mattei's entrepreneurial approach.
