Gela, 13 January 2015 –The launch event of the new Safety Competence Center (SCC) was held in the presence of local institutions, territorial trade unions and Eni representatives.
The opening in Gela of Eni's leading security centre is among the actions foreseen by the memorandum of understanding signed on November 6th at the Ministry for Economic Development. This agreement represents an important turning point for the industrial presence of Eni in Gela because, thanks to an investment plan amounting to 2.2 billion euro on various levels of intervention, Eni aims to create the conditions for a durable recovery of economic activities, guaranteeing firm local employment prospects. Other operations that interest the site, besides the opening of the SCC, are the conversion of the refinery into a green refinery, development interventions of upstream activities, and environmental recovery activities.
Gela’s competence centre will manage an internal group of professionals which will become experts in security and will operate coordinating and supervising safety of subcontract works in Eni’s industrial sites in Italy and worldwide. In Gela, with the cooperation of Eni Corporate University, training and high level specialization courses will be held for Eni professionals who will have jobs within safety issues in subcontract works.
The SCC is an exceptional change, a new approach in the management of safety in subcontract works, which will allow both greater authority and strength from our safety experts and growth of experiences, skills and knowledge on safety issues for Eni.
With the launch of the SCC, Eni confirms its industrial plan and commitment in Italy, pointing out the company’s attention on safety and the pursuit of outstanding results.
