Following the success of last year’s season, Eni is once again partnering the Teatro Comunale di Ferrara in what is certainly an interesting and prestigious programme for the 2011/2012 Season, complete with a surprise.
Among the works from the great operatic tradition, this year the season will also include what purists consider a more modest operetta.
The work is called Il paese dei campanelli, and is the first Italian operetta to be performed at the Comunale.
The opening of the Season will be held on Friday 20 and Sunday 22 January with Gaetano Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, which has not been performed in Ferrara for more than 25 years. The music will be played by the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto conducted by the Spanish conductor Sergio Alapont. The production is directed by Italo Nunziata and is based on the established production of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
This will be followed by Il paese dei campanelli, one of the most successful works by the Lombardo-Ranzato duo, and will be performed on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 February, in a production directed by Silvia Felisetti and with the Orchestra Città di Ferrara conducted by Stefano Giaroli.
The third work in the season is Verdi’s Rigoletto, which has also not been performed in Ferrara for more than 10 years. The opera will be performed on Friday 23 and Sunday 25 March, in a production directed by Patrizia Di Paolo with Francesco Ommassini conducting the Orchestra Filarmonica Veneta.
The Season will end with the baroque opera Rinaldo by Händel, which will be seen in the celebrated production by Pier Luigi Pizzi. Spiccano. The top flight cast includes Marina De Liso, Maria Grazia Schiavo, Roberta Invernizzi and Riccardo Novaro and the baroque ensemble Accademia Bizantina will be conducted by Ottavio Dantone.
Running alongside the Season will be a detailed collection entitled Lirica per la Città, which examines the world of opera in three parts: Esperienze di Teatro Musicale, Non solo Opera, Dietro le quinte.
