The bursary award is solely for post primary school (secondary school) students from the communities in the areas of the company’s operations (transit and host communities). The award of the bursary is effective from the academic session and class of the beneficiary until the end of senior secondary (SS3).
The scholarship award is mainly for registered full time undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions (100 level), and is effective from the first semester of year one.
The scholarship award is of two types:

  • Area of operation scholarship award: this category is open to first year students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria from the local community of the company’s operational areas (in Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers States)
  • National merit scholarship award: this award is open to first year degree students in tertiary institutions in Nigeria who are not from the local community of the company’s operational areas.

Scholarships are awarded for any discipline for candidates from the communities in the company’s operational areas while only candidates studying Engineering, Geosciences and Medicine are eligible for the National Merit Awards. The scholarship board however, shall from time to time, review the list of disciplines and course of study for the National Merit Awards.
