Support for National Development Objectives

Eni in Nigeria also supports local content development through its strategic investments in key sectors critical to enhancing the nation’s domestic industrial capacity, such as Power and Gas. As the first upstream operation in Nigeria to invest in an Independent Power Plant, the NAOC JV, through the Okpai Power Plant is firmly committed to the removing key bottlenecks to national development.

 

Partnerships

Eni in Nigeria works with other local and international bodies to support capacity building endeavours. Some of these initiatives include:

  • Collaborating with Standards Organization of Nigeria and other International Oil Companies (IOCs), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other stakeholders to establish standards for Barites, Protective paints, Oil Country Tubular Goods threads, etc.
  • Participating in the co-funding of the National Fabrication Yards Audit with the aim of enhancing the capacities and capabilities of in-country fabricators to world class level.
  • Fostering partnerships between international companies and independent Nigerian companies, including the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) for technological transfer.
  • Supporting various Nigerian local content capacity development initiatives led by the OPTS such as the establishment of Barite and drilling fluids industry, welding centre, valves assembly and the seamless line pipe Mill
  • Fully supporting and contributing to various local content initiatives carried out through its JV partners namely Shell Petroleum Development Company JV and Shell Nigeria Exploration & Production Company Ltd.
