Research and Development

Increasing research capacity for a cutting-edge industry.

The Company is leading in the promotion of research and development in the Nigerian oil and gas industry with various initiatives aimed at domesticating the available technology and developing sustainable solution to issues peculiar to the Nigerian terrain. These programmes include:

  • Construction of a Marine Laboratory in Rivers State University, Port Harcourt to promote research and development in the marine sector
  • Collaboration with Nigerian Universities and Research Centres to address the gaps between the theory of the classrooms and practical needs of the country, as well as to develop new technology/design improvements in such areas as soil remediation, biofuels, thermo-electric generation and maintenance engineering.
  • In October 2017, NAOC signed an MoU with Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) to develop in-country local content capacities in the area of manufacturing, engineering, projects and well delivery, and production operations in the Nigerian oil and gas industry. The objective of this initiative is to develop a sustainable base of competent local manpower and to develop credible indigenous companies into comprehensive world class companies.
  • In 2013, NAOC commenced research and development activities with a Nigerian University (Institute of Petroleum Studies, University of Port Harcourt) in accordance with the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry Content Development Act. For this activity, NAOC’s responsibilities include the purchase of relevant equipment and materials, the provision of training for the professors on the use of the equipment, and funding of research personnel expenses.
