San Donato Milanese (Milan), 19 October 2026 – For the third consecutive year, Eni has received the “Gold Standard reporting” designation from the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) for its commitment to reporting emissions with the highest levels of data quality. OGMP 2.0 is an initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) that aims to set the global standard for the reliability and transparency of methane emissions reporting in the oil and gas sector. Reporting is a fundamental step in effectively tracking and targeting methane emissions mitigation actions.
This year, Eni obtained the “Gold Standard” thanks to its commitment to monitoring and reporting on all material assets, including non-operated ones, for which it has achieved the highest levels of reporting data quality and reliability. This result was made possible by coordination with partners and the national oil companies of the countries where Eni operates.
Eni joined OGMP 2.0 in 2020, receiving its first recognition in 2023 with the “Gold Standard Pathway,” thanks to significant improvements in its implementation plans for methane emissions reporting, in line with OGMP 2.0 requirements. In 2024 and 2025, Eni obtained the “Gold Standard” for operated assets.
Eni believes that natural gas has a role in the energy transition pathway to 2050 due to its reliability, versatility and low carbon content compared with other fossil fuels. However, global action is needed to zeroing methane leaks along the entire natural gas value chain. Eni has set the goal of eliminating methane emissions by 2030 and, to this end, in 2025 it reached its target of an 80% reduction in the methane emissions intensity index compared to 2014.
Eni is working with other industry players and international organizations to control emissions across the entire value chain. The company is a co-founder of the UNEP Oil & Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP), the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) and the Methane Guiding Principles (MGP). In 2023, Eni signed the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), a key initiative to align the sector around transparent and concrete actions to reduce emissions, including methane and flaring, as well as the Global Flaring and Methane Reduction Trust Fund (GFMR), an initiative launched by the World Bank to support governments and operators in developing countries in eliminating routine flaring and reducing methane emissions from the O&G sector to near zero by 2030.
Eni has also signed collaboration agreements with various national oil companies (NOCs), including EGAS and Sonatrach, with the aim of sharing expertise and experience in methane management to reduce emissions across the sector through capacity-building programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives. In 2025, training and technical support activities were implemented in Egypt, Algeria, Libya, and Iraq. Further underscoring this shared commitment to the decarbonization pathway, in 2026 Eni signed a new Memorandum of Intent (MoI) with Sonatrach, aimed at expanding the collaboration between the two companies on these matters.
Eni’s commitment to reducing methane emissions is one of the levers of the company’s operational decarbonization plan, which also includes the progressive reduction of routine flaring emissions and investments in energy efficiency, with the goal of achieving Net Zero Scope 1+2 emissions for the Upstream business by 2030, and for the whole of Eni by 2035.
