Eni: The Call4Innovators projects have been selected and will access HPC6 computational resources

San Donato Milanese (Milan), 4 December 2025 - Eni today announces that it has concluded the selection of 10 innovative projects proposed by startups, SMEs, academic institutions, and research centres under the Call4Innovators. The initiative aims to develop projects with a significant impact on the energy transition and technological competitiveness.

The selected entities, listed below, will have direct access to the computational resources of Eni's HPC6 supercomputer:

  • Gianpietro Moras (Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM) - Computational Material Science
  • Zachary Smith (Massachussets Institute of Technology) - Computational Material Science
  • Filippo De Girolamo (Sapienza Università di Roma) - Engineering Systems: Modelling and Optimization, Meteorology & Earth Science
  • Rohan Ramasamy (Proxima Fusion GmbH) - Engineering Systems: Modelling and Optimization, Meteorology & Earth Science
  • Enrico Cesare Maggioni (Ideam S.r.l.) - Meteorology & Earth Science
  • Natale Walter Talarico (Algorithmiq Oy) - Computational Material Science
  • Gianluca Ferrari (Hypermeteo S.r.l) - Meteorology & Earth Science
  • Joan Saladich (Geoskop SL) - Meteorology & Earth Science
  • Christopher Valdivia (Enurgen Inc) - Engineering Systems: Modelling and Optimization
  • Leonardo Chhabra (G2Q Computing S.r.l.) - Energy Portfolio Management

The Call4Innovators, launched in June 2025 in collaboration with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), HPE, and the CINECA Consortium, with the support of Plug and Play offer to the selected projects HPC6’s supercomputing resources to develop, evolve, and scale their advanced calculation models, also leveraging the support of Eni’s experts and its technological partners.

The numerous applicants came from 20 countries with a wide geographical distribution: 61% from Europe, 30% from the United States, and 9% from the rest of the world. The applications were distributed across five thematic categories: computational materials science, meteorology and earth sciences, energy portfolio management, engineering systems, and smart mobility. The applications were evaluated by Eni, along with technological partners AMD, HPE, and CINECA based on criteria which include the solidity of the proposal, novelty of the solution, compatibility with the HPC6 infrastructure, alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Eni's strategic plan.

The Call4Innovators represents a further confirmation of the importance that scientific research and technological innovation hold for Eni in building an expanded innovation ecosystem, with the goal of facilitating synergistic collaboration between projects. In this context HPC6, a world-class supercomputer, it has once again proven to be a key technology enabler along with the company's network of expertise and know-how.
