Versalis: at the Gazometro, a meeting on the strategy for transforming the chemistry sector

Rome, 23 September 2025 – Industrial transformation was the focus of today’s meeting at the Gazometro, organised by Versalis, Eni’s chemical company, together with partners and customers.

The event, titled “Versalis: from polymers to markets” provided an opportunity to engage with supply-chain companies on the challenges and opportunities tied to Versalis’ transformation plan. The company is pursuing a major programme increasingly focused on portfolio specialisation, circularity, biochemistry and innovation.

The transformation strategy, announced in October 2024 and backed by €2 billion of investments, particularly in Apulia and Sicily, envisions the expansion of new platforms dedicated to chemistry from renewable sources, circular processes and specialised products. These are fast-growing markets in which Versalis is consolidating its leadership position, including through Novamont and Finproject.

In a rapidly changing context, offering products and solutions aligned with customer and market needs is crucial. Versalis delivers this through a highly diversified portfolio integrated across the entire value chain, serving multiple industrial sectors including automotive, packaging, construction, agriculture and household appliances.

Alongside its constantly evolving traditional products, Versalis presented its solutions for the transition: complementary, circular recycling technologies (including for the plastic food-packaging market); compostable products made from renewable raw materials by Novamont; and Finproject specialities designed for fashion, design and applications requiring specific technical and performance properties.

The event also provided a forum of discussions with representatives from academia, associations and businesses on key topics such as the regulatory framework as a driver of industrial transformation, advanced recycling, the bioeconomy, and collaborations with start-ups and universities to develop innovative technologies.

Yesterday, the Gazometro also hosted a meeting of 14 consumer associations belonging to the CNCU (National Council of Consumers and Users), which drafted and signed “Bio & Circular Plastics Pact”. The document, the result of a collaborative effort among the consumer associations, - also thanks to the dialogue platform made available by Versalis - reinforces principles and commitments for a more transparent, responsible and sustainable use of plastic packaging.
