Eni begins construction of photovoltaic plant in Porto Torres

Eni subsidiary company Eni New Energy SpA has started construction of a photovoltaic plant with a peak installed capacity of 31 MW (megawatts), at the Porto Torres industrial site in Sassari in Sardinia.

Eni continues along the energy transition pathway towards a low-carbon future by creating a new photovoltaic plant in Sardinia

San Donato Milanese (MI), 25 February 2019 -  Eni subsidiary company Eni New Energy SpA has started construction of a photovoltaic plant with a peak installed capacity of 31 MW (megawatts), at the Porto Torres industrial site in Sassari in Sardinia.

The Region of Sardinia authorised the construction and operation of the project, which will be installed in Porto Torres. The location is a Site of National Interest and the industrial area is being redeveloped by Syndial, an Eni company providing environmental remediation projects, as part of a broader environmental reclamation project.

About 70% of the energy produced every year, approximately 51 GWh (gigawatt hours), will be used by the companies operating at the industrial site, enabling around 26,000 tonnes less in annual CO2 emissions. Thus, the project will contribute to achieving the objectives set out in Italy’s Regional Energy Plan and in the National Energy Strategy with regards to decarbonisation and the amount of renewable energy in the energy mix.

Eni and the City of Porto Torres have also outlined, in accordance with the relevant local institutions, an agreement to implement any interventions in the area that impact energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

The Porto Torres photovoltaic project is part of the Progetto Italia initiatives launched by Eni in 2016 and will  be completed by the end of 2019.

This is the second plant built in Eni-owned industrial areas in Sardinia following the construction of the Assemini plant (26 MW), which was completed in 2018.
