- BUSINESS MEETINGS AND AGREEMENTS
Rome, December 3, 2015 - The Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Energy Union, Maroš Šefčovič, met today in Rome Eni’s CEO, Claudio Descalzi at the company's headquarters.
During the meeting they discussed, among other things, of energy security, the development of prospects in the eastern Mediterranean basin, Italy's role as European gas market crossroads as well as the need for an interconnected gas transport system among countries, as part of the European Energy’s strategy, carried out by the EU’s Vice President. During the meeting, referring to the Climate Conference in Paris, they tackled the paradox of the use of coal in the European energy mix.
The meeting offered Eni’s CEO the opportunity to confirm EU's Vice President the commitment of the company towards the climate change challenges.
Eni is also part of the Oil & Gas Climate Initiative, a voluntary initiative of some large energy companies, with the proposal of catalyzing concrete actions on climate change through collaboration and sharing of best practices. Eni is furthermore among the first signatories of the Global Gas Flaring Reduction promoted by the World Bank.
