- SUSTAINABILITY
Pemba (Mozambique), 7 October 2026 – Eni Rovuma Basin, on behalf of the Area 4 Partners, and in the presence of the Secretary of State for Gender and Social Welfare, handed over today to the Government Authorities of Cabo Delgado province, the newly reconstructed and fully equipped Pemba Municipality Kindergarten. It follows the completion of the rehabilitation works carried out under the Coral South FLNG Project Sustainability Plan.
The rehabilitation works transformed the facility into a modern childhood education centre, comprising 6 activity rooms, a dining hall, kitchen, administrative offices, sanitary facilities, recreational areas, and other support infrastructure. The centre is designed to provide a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment for children with ages between 2 to 5 years.
"Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment. Seeing this kindergarten ready to serve the children of Pemba is a source of great pride for all of us. This achievement reflects the strength of our partnership with the Government of Mozambique and our shared vision to creating a better future for the next generations", said Francesco Gasparri, Eni Rovuma Basin General Director.
The kindergarten is part of an integrated education project that has already delivered other educational infrastructures in Pemba, while also supporting capacity building for teachers and educators, as well as an adult literacy programme. To date, the project has benefited more than 4,000 students, 70 teachers and educators, and 400 adults, contributing to improved educational opportunities and community development in Pemba.
The inauguration of these facilities reflects the shared commitment of Eni Rovuma Basin and the Area 4 Partners to strengthening access to quality education and create lasting value for communities through investments in social infrastructure and human development and reinforces the strong partnership with the Government of Mozambique in expanding access to quality education and creating long term benefits for future generations.
Eni has been present in Mozambique since 2006. Between 2011 and 2014, the company discovered vast natural gas resources in the Rovuma Basin, in the Coral, Mamba Complex and Agulha reservoirs, with around 2,400 billion cubic meters of gas in place. Coral South is the first project to produce gas from the Rovuma Basin, and Coral North will further leverage Mozambique’s significant reserves when on stream. Eni contributes to improving the country’s economic diversification, access to education, health, and water through implementation of a comprehensive sustainability plan. Eni is also very active to include Mozambique at the center of its energy transition program, with projects such as clean cooking, REDD+ as well as agriculture.
Area 4 is operated by Mozambique Rovuma Venture S.p.A. (MRV), a joint venture owned by Eni, ExxonMobil, and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), which holds a 70% interest in the Area 4 Exploration and Production Concession Contract. The other partners are XRG, KOGAS, and ENH, each holding a 10% participation interest.
