- LOCAL INITIATIVES
The initiative will see 1,227 trees and plants put in the ground, with the engagement of over 160 young people, contributing to environmental protection and raising awareness among future generations.
Pointe-Noire (Republic of the Congo) 6 November 2026 – On the occasion of National Tree Day, celebrated every year on 6 November in the Republic of the Congo, Eni Congo is promoting a tree-planting and environmental awareness initiative at the Centre d’Appui Technique et de Ressources Professionnelles (CATREP). The initiative involves planting 1,227 trees and plants, creating a green barrier along more than 1.6 kilometres and enriching the centre's existing green areas.
“For Eni Congo, supporting the country's development means investing in people, strengthening local skills and creating opportunities for future generations. This is why this initiative, carried out in the area of the Hinda Integrated Project and at CATREP, is particularly meaningful. As an integral part of the Project, the centre promotes agricultural development through technical training and sustainable farming practices. By combining environmental protection, knowledge-sharing and the involvement of young people, today's initiative reflects Eni's commitment to the long-term development of local communities and the territory,” said Alberto Nocerino, Managing Director of Eni Congo.
The initiative will strengthen the protection of the CATREP site, recently threatened by bushfires, with selected species chosen to serve environmental and educational purposes. More than 400 Acacia mangium trees will form a green barrier along the road; Vetiver and bamboo will stabilize the soil; fruit trees will restore and enrich the orchard area. The plantations will also serve as a practical learning tool for CATREP trainees, strengthening agricultural training and promoting sustainable land management practices.
Young people are at the heart of the initiative, which is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and involves 162 students from the Enrico Mattei Campus, Ngoyo Agricultural High School, the Don Bosco Training Centre and CATREP. By taking part directly in the planting activities, they will actively contribute to environmental protection. Furthermore, each tree will bear the name of one of the young participants, encouraging them to follow its growth.
Closing the ceremony, institutional and company’s representatives have proceeded to plant a baobab tree, symbolizing the shared commitment to protecting the area's natural heritage and preserving the environment for future generations.
Eni has been present in the Republic of the Congo since 1968 with an actual gross production of approximately 160 kboed in 2026. Eni Congo is currently the country’s largest producer, developing associated and non-associated gas resources for both the domestic market and international LNG market. Eni Congo supplies gas to the Congo Power Plant, which provides around 70% of the country's electricity generation capacity, and contributes to the strengthening of the high-voltage transmission network. Eni is also active in initiatives supporting the energy transition, such as the agri-feedstock project, which integrates the country into the biofuels value chain and represents a development lever for the agro-industrial sector, as well as a wide range of programmes aimed at improving local communities’ access to energy, water, healthcare and economic diversification.
