The report marks two decades of Eni’s presence in Mozambique, highlighting the company’s contribution to the country’s economic and social development and reaffirming its long-term commitment to creating shared value and fostering inclusive growth.
Pemba (Mozambique), 23 September 2026 - Eni presented today its Local Sustainability Report, “20 Years of Eni in Mozambique: Juntos Crescemos 2025”, during the Stakeholders Engagement Forum held in Pemba, in the presence of government authorities, institutional partners, civil society representatives and other key stakeholders.

The report retraces Eni’s journey in Mozambique since 2006, from the discovery of significant natural gas resources in the Rovuma Basin to the development of Coral South, the country’s first LNG project, and Coral North, currently under development. The long-term development of the country’s energy resources has gone hand in hand with efforts to strengthen local capabilities and economic participation: since 2016, Eni has awarded nearly US$1 billion in contracts to Mozambican suppliers, while providing international and national training opportunities to local employees. To reinforce its efforts, throughout 2025 the company has also implemented targeted supplier engagement initiatives, such as the Eni Open Days, which has engaged over 200 local companies across key sectors.
“Juntos Crescemos 2025” also showcases Eni’s commitment to sustainable development, including investments in education, healthcare, access to water and economic diversification initiatives. Through the company’s initiatives, around 6,000 students have accessed quality education, while healthcare programmes have reached approximately 40,000 women and children. In Cabo Delgado, investments have strengthened emergency and diagnostic services, including the installation of the province’s first locally available CT scanner at Pemba Provincial Hospital, reducing the need for referrals to Nampula, approximately 365 kilometres away. Since its installation, more than 1,500 CT scans have been performed. In Mecufi, initiatives supporting water access, sanitation and livelihoods have benefited more than 37,000 people.
The report further showcases Eni’s commitment to environmental protection and the energy transition. Since 2023, its clean cooking programme has distributed more than 200,000 improved cooking solutions in Maputo, Sofala and Manica, as part of a target to reach up to two million people by 2028. Through the Great Limpopo REDD+ Project, Eni supports forest conservation and sustainable livelihoods across up to 3.6 million hectares in four provinces, with an estimated 320,000 community members expected to benefit.
Eni has been present in Mozambique since 2006. Between 2011 and 2014, the company discovered vast natural gas resources in the Rovuma Basin, in the Coral, Mamba Complex and Agulha reservoirs, with around 2,400 billion cubic meters of gas in place. Eni is the operator of Coral South project, the first to produce gas from the Rovuma Basin and Coral North Project, whose startup is forecast in 2028. Beyond its energy activities, Eni is committed to supporting Mozambique's economic diversification and sustainable development through a comprehensive local development strategy focused on improving access to education, healthcare, water, energy, and economic opportunities for local communities.
