Abidjan, 3 September 2025 – Eni today presents its second sustainability report dedicated to Côte d'Ivoire, reaffirming its commitment to a just energy transition that integrates economic growth, social inclusion, environmental protection and the valorization of local content. The presentation ceremony, held in Abidjan, was attended by representatives from institutions, academia, the private sector, international cooperation and civil organizations, reflecting the collaborative and inclusive approach that characterizes Eni's presence in the country.
"The most valuable legacy we want to leave to Côte d'Ivoire goes beyond the energy sector: it is measured in the people, in the skills that remain, in the ability to generate stable and inclusive opportunities. This is why we have launched numerous training initiatives aimed at strengthening and enhancing local capabilities as drivers of shared and lasting development," said Luca Faccenda, Managing Director of Eni Côte d'Ivoire, during the report presentation ceremony.
The report confirms the decarbonization path of the Baleine project, the first net zero emissions (Scope 1 and 2) upstream development in Africa, thanks to the use of the best-in-class technologies and local initiatives aimed at offsetting emissions. In 2024, In 2024, a 30-year conservation and restoration project was successfully launched to protect 14 forests in the Lagunes and Comoé regions. The initiative is expected to have direct and indirect positive impacts on over 300,000 people. In 2025, with the planting of the first 100 hectares, the groundwork began for the planting of around 12 million native trees as part of the project. At the same time, the Clean Cooking program, launched in 2022, has reached a significant milestone, by involving over 750,000 people through the distribution of improved cookstoves and the issuance of the first certified carbon credits. Both projects will make a tangible contribution to reducing emissions and improving the living conditions of vulnerable communities, in line with environmental and social sustainability objectives. In 2025, the company also made important progress in its agri-feedstock project, which involves the valorization of forest and agro-industrial residues, such as oil produced from rubber tree seeds (Hevea) and oil derived from the pressing of cashew nut shells (Cashew Nut Shell Liquid - CNSL). This aligns with the sustainable development of local agricultural supply chains and generates new opportunities to increase and diversify income for thousands of farmers’ families. The first shipments started in June 2025.
Strengthening local content is one of the pillars of Eni's objectives in Côte d'Ivoire. The report outlines initiatives launched to promote employment, train qualified professionals, and facilitate the transfer of skills across various areas of the energy sector. To this end, Eni continues to invest in technical education: through professional master's programs developed in collaboration with the Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny (INP-HB), a new generation of professionals is being prepared to operate in the production and refining sectors. More than 50 students have already completed internships at Eni and other companies in the sector. More than 50 students have already completed internships at Eni and other companies in the sector.
Attention to youth employment also extends to strategic fields such as artificial intelligence, electronics, and automotive mechanics. Through two separate programs, Pro-Jeunes and Sustainable Jobs, around 400 young people have participated in training courses aimed at enhancing their integration into the job market.
Eni has also continued to promote access to essential services, such as healthcare and education, and to support economic diversification initiatives. In the health sector, a maternity ward has been built and five health centers have been renovated and equipped with modern and adequate equipment; healthcare personnel have been trained, and ambulances suitable for use in rural areas have been provided. In primary and secondary education, more than 16,000 students now benefit from safer, more modern, and better-equipped school facilities. In the field of economic diversification, the Ethical Fashion Initiative has helped establish a sustainable textile hub and a social enterprise, which already has both national and international contracts.
Operating in Côte d'Ivoire since 2015, Eni has made the country's two largest hydrocarbon discoveries, Baleine and Calao, and continues to invest in contributing to the country's growth.
