- BUSINESS MEETINGS AND AGREEMENTS
The Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed by the Eni Rovuma Basin Managing Director, Marica Calabrese and the AICS Maputo Director, Paolo Enrico Sertoli, under the auspices of the Ambassador of Italy in Mozambique, Gabriele Annis.
Maputo, June 20, 2025 - Eni Rovuma Basin signed today a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) to strengthen collaboration to improve the well-being of communities in Mozambique.
Potential areas of cooperation include agriculture and rural development, environment and blue economy, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), food security and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, and community health.
The agreement reflects Eni and AICS’s shared commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth in Mozambique. By working together, the partners aim to reinforce the positive impact of their initiatives, contributing to the long-term well-being of the communities and to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Eni has been present in Mozambique since 2006. Between 2011 and 2014, it discovered vast natural gas resources in the Rovuma basin, in the Coral, Mamba Complex, and Agulha reservoirs, with around 2,400 billion cubic meters of gas in place. Eni is the delegated operator of Coral South, the first Project to produce LNG in Mozambique. Since production startup in 2022, Coral South has delivered over 100 cargoes of LNG. In April 2025, the Plan Of Development of the Coral North Project has been approved, which targets to replicate the success of Coral South. Mozambique also plays an important role in Eni’s decarbonization strategy, thanks to the agri-feedstock and carbon offset projects.
The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), within the guidelines defined by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), is the technical body responsible for carrying out the activities related to evaluation, formulation, financing, management and monitoring of cooperation projects. The Agency was established by the cooperation reform law (Law No. 125/2014) and began operating in 2016, with a central office in Rome and one in Florence, as well as 20 offices abroad, 10 of which are located in Africa. In Mozambique, AICS has a long-standing cooperation experience with the Government, Civil Society Organizations as well as Agencies of the United Nations system.
