Assouindé (Côte d'Ivoire), March 18, 2025 – Eni announces the official inauguration of the Rural Health Centers of Assouindé and Bondoukou located in the southeastern part of the country, rehabilitated and equipped in collaboration with the non-governmental organization International Rescue Committee (IRC). This initiative is part of a broader program aimed at strengthening the healthcare system in Sud Comoé Region, with a particular focus on maternal and child health.
The inaugurated health centers have undergone significant interventions including rehabilitation of infrastructure, improvement of hygiene and sanitation conditions, improvement of electrical installations and proper management of medical waste. These health centers have also been provided with medical equipment to improve the quality of medical care. Alongside the infrastructure improvements and the delivery of medical equipment, 4 fully equipped 4x4 ambulances have been already distributed in 2024 and are already in service to facilitate timely access to healthcare for communities, of which 2 have been assigned to the Adjaké health district, 1 to Grand-Bassam, and 1 to Aboisso. Additionally, the initiative includes a comprehensive training program for healthcare personnel and community health organizations.
"We are proud to support this project, which aims to improve access to healthcare, particularly for women and children, and to strengthen the system’s resilience in alignment with the priorities of the 2021-2025 National Health Development Plan. Enhancing geographical access to healthcare by reinforcing the local health network is essential to achieving broader, fairer, and more inclusive healthcare coverage", said Luca Faccenda, Managing Director of Eni Côte d'Ivoire.
The 2 renovated health centres top the 3 facilities inaugurated in July 2024 in Ayenouan, Djiminikoffikro, and Ono-Salci, while another facility in Grand-Bassam is under rehabilitation, bringing the total number to 6. Thanks to this initiative, the rate access in the use of healthcare centres has increased to more than 30%, making a tangible contribution to the well-being of the population.
Eni has been operating in Côte d'Ivoire since 2015, undertaking a wide range of projects that span from hydrocarbon production to the development of new energy sources, integrating the country into the biofuel value chain. In addition, the company is committed to initiatives aimed at improving access to healthcare and education, in line with its broader commitment to a just energy transition.
