Focus Live 2026: Eni’s evolution in supercomputing
The long-standing partnership between Eni and Focus continues in 2026.
From 23 to 25 October, Focus Live returns to the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan. This year, the festival of knowledge explores the theme of “Intelligences” in all their forms: collective, alien, animal, historical, linguistic, artificial and emotional. The event once again offers a unique opportunity to explore science and innovation through a rich programme of talks, workshops and interactive experiences.
As Main Partner of the event, Eni strengthens its commitment to science outreach by sharing its expertise in technological innovation.
From supercomputing to ytterbium atoms, the core of a particular type of quantum computer, Lorenzo Fiorillo, Eni’s Director of TECH R&D & Digital, joins the Focus Live programme with a talk entitled “Counting Atoms”. The talk, open to the public with prior registration, explores another milestone in Eni’s supercomputing journey, starting with HPC7, one of the most advanced systems supporting industrial research, which will also feature in a dedicated corner at the event. The session will explore the opportunities offered by quantum computing, its potential to complement more traditional technologies and its role in addressing increasingly complex challenges as Eni evolves.

Eni’s supercomputer HPC7 is one of the most powerful in the world and the first ever designed for industrial use. It can perform more than 861 quadrillion mathematical operations per second and, together with HPC6, enables Eni to exceed the Exascale Computing threshold, reaching a combined capacity of over one quintillion operations per second. This vast computing power becomes even more valuable when applied to artificial intelligence. Its value depends on data quality and validation, and on data flows being integrated into business processes. For this reason, Eni adopts a responsible, human-centred approach, in line with the European AI Act, invests in skills and has created centres of excellence to oversee the entire project lifecycle, from prototyping to industrialisation.
