Since its commissioning in the mid fifties, the multi-company plant built by Eni in Mantua has been one of Italy's most important petrochemical industrial settlements. Today it is part of the Lakes of Mantua and Chemical Hub Site of National Interest under the national reclamation and environmental cleanup programme. Here Eni Rewind, which owns areas inherited from Montedison, has spent approximately 80 million euros as at 31st December 2019, for demolition, characterisation and reclamation activities for lands and the aquifer. Over the next few years an additional economic commitment is expected to amount to approximately 150 million euros. The operation currently under way for the reclamation of the Collina Area is especially innovative in view of its "Crater". A challenging project is being implemented, one-of-a-kind in Europe, which involves ad hoc solutions adapted from maritime engineering.
